Glen Johnson expects Liverpool to ‘sign two-three players’ before the transfer window closes, claiming the club have something up their sleeve.
Liverpool are yet to explode in the transfer market after having a relatively quiet one despite rivals strengthen their squads. While it’s widely expected the club make a few signings before the end of the window, there is a feeling Jurgen Klopp may be content with his current squad.
Klopp recently suggested players will have to leave the club before new signings could be brought in and Liverpool are no closer to making any big sales. Xherdan Shaqiri is one player tipped to leave the club, but the interest has only been modest in the Swiss attacker.
On paper, it seems like Liverpool have a complete squad, but Klopp will be happy to add a quality addition somewhere. The club have only signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig earlier in the window to address their defensive problem. In contrast, the return of injured regulars has brought regularity to their backline.
They might still look to add a midfielder to replace Gini Wijnaldum, who joined PSG earlier. Liverpool also remain linked with various wide attackers such as Ismaila Sarr from Watford and Jeremy Doku of Rennes. Although, those players carry a heavy price tag, and the Reds currently has enough forward players in their ranks.

However, former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson believes his former club have something up their sleeve and could make ‘2-3 signings’ before the window shuts. The Metro published quotes from Johnson while he spoke at length to SBK Sportsbook.
Johnson said, “What Liverpool need to challenge for the league is someone in midfield that can help the front three in very tight games. I do think they heavily rely on the front three.
“They’ve pretty much had the same front three for a few years now – although they did bring in Jota last year, who has done a good job so far. But despite that, they need a bit more help up top, to be honest. I would like to see Lorenzo Insigne come in. He really impressed me at Euro 2020. He could be the sort of flair player who they could use as a number 10 to unlock the door.
“They won’t just buy players on performances alone. I’m sure they’ve got their eyes on a few people. They need to bring players in. I can definitely see them making another two, three signings.”
Liverpool could certainly make do with a transfer or two; there isn’t space in the squad to accommodate anyone new. However, if someone leaves and the club brings a new midfielder or attacker, the Reds will only strengthen their team for the next season, which looks very long.
