Manchester United are among the clubs monitoring the progress of Danish whizkid Wahid Faghir, compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to the Italian news outlet 1000 Cuori, Wahid Faghir has emerged as a subject of interest for multiple clubs across Europe. One of those clubs are Bologna, who are desperate to reshape their attacking department, But they are set to face stiff competition from Manchester United in the pursuit of the young forward, dubbed as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his home country.
A Danish with Afghani origins, Faghir currently plies his trade at Vejle BK, a modest outfit in the Superligaen. It is the hometown club of the young striker, who was promoted to the senior side at the start of last year. His younger brother, Waris Faghir, also plays for Vejle but for the reserve team at the moment.
Wahid made his initial breakthrough at Vejle during the backend of the 2019/20 campaign, being directly involved in five goals in ten matches in 1.Division. His contributions turned out to be decisive in Vejle’s bid for promotion.
In his first season in the Danish top-flight, the 18-year-old lived up to the promise shown by netting five goals in 22 matches. It is not a spectacular tally by any means, but Faghir has certainly made a name for himself as one of the most promising forwards in the Danish top flight.
As comparisons with Ibrahimovic suggests, the youngster has a tall figure and is very imposing in physical duels, which is coupled with his speed and technique. Standing at 1.85m, the Vejle forward is indeed quite an intimidating presence in the final third.
Faghir’s breakthrough at Vejle has not gone unnoticed either, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on his development. There is no doubt that the Red Devils have their attacking slots up for grabs, especially in the goalscoring department, where the club remains highly reliant on the ageing Edinson Cavani.
Anthony Martial, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford. It could potentially open up an opportunity for a youngster like Faghir to become a potential first-team option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, it remains unlikely that Man United would want to splash the cash for the Dane just yet. The forward still requires more experience at the highest level of football, so it won’t be surprising to see the Red Devils wait for at least another season before making a move for the 18-year-old, who is likely to remain at Vejle this summer.
