Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that he expects Trent Alexander-Arnold will play for Liverpool his entire career.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to retire at Anfield as a one-club man.
A product of the Liverpool youth academy through and through, Alexander-Arnold has been on the club’s rolls since 2004. The right-back made his first-team debut in 2016 under Jurgen Klopp and has since gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the best in his position in the Premier League.
To date, Alexander-Arnold has racked up 179 appearances for Liverpool, scoring ten goals and setting up 44 more, while essaying a crucial role in the Reds’ historic UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs in 2018/19 and 2019/20 respectively, all of it at just 22 years of age.
Alexander-Arnold went through a bit of a rough patch last season, which even led to his axing from the England squad. However, he bounced back brilliantly to end the campaign strongly, force his way back into the national team for the Euros, only to get ruled out with an injury.
The summer, however, has been a positive one for the 22-year-old as he recently penned a new long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at the club till the summer of 2025. Now, Agbonlahor has tipped the youngster to spend all his career as a Liverpool player.
The ex-Aston Villa forward said: “He loves Liverpool, he’s a scouse lad with a strong scouse accent. Liverpool have given him the platform and Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world at the moment. It doesn’t make sense for him to leave unless he falls out with the manager which I doubt would happen.
“For me, Trent Alexander-Arnold will stay there for his whole career. He won’t look to move at all. He’ll be buzzing to be at Liverpool and will see out his career there.”
Alexander-Arnold is just 22 years old and still has a long career left ahead of him. And, he has committed the next four years to Liverpool. As to whether he will retire at Anfield, only time will tell. Apart from the right-back, have also handed out new deals to the Brazilian duo of Fabinho and Alisson Becker.
