Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has expressed his delight after committing his long-term future to the Merseyside club by penning a new contract.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has revealed how happy and excited he is after signing a new contract with the Reds.
Signed from AS Monaco in the summer of 2018, Fabinho has grown into one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League and Europe during his time at Anfield. The Brazilian has been extremely pivotal to the success that the Reds have seen in the past few seasons, having played key roles in their Champions League and Premier League triumphs in 2018/19 and 2019/20.
To date, the 27-year-old has made 122 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring three goals and setting up seven more. Fabinho highlighted his value to the side last season when he doubled up as a centre-back in the absence of key defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez and did a sterling job in a makeshift position.
Always held in the highest of regards by his manager, Fabinho still had two years left on his contract. But, Liverpool has acted quickly to ensure that the Brazilian international’s long-term future is tied down by handing him a new deal, which sees his stay at Anfield get extended till the summer of 2026.

Having put pen to paper on the new deal, Fabinho said: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with the club. Since the beginning of the conversation, I was really positive about it because it’s what I wanted – staying in this club, keep playing for Liverpool. Now this is official and I’m really happy.
“These last three seasons I’ve been really happy here. I learned a lot with the manager, with all the staff, with the boys as well. “We achieved things together and for me I think it’s the best place to be, the best place to keep growing, to keep learning from the staff, from the boys. Hopefully, we will keep achieving good things.”
This is a second major contract extension in quick succession for Liverpool, who recently handed a new deal to first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. More are likely to be on the way, with several Reds’ stars seeing their current deals expiring in the summer of 2023.
One player that might not be penning a new deal, at least at the moment, is captain Jordan Henderson. There has been a standoff in negotiations over a new deal due to Liverpool’s policy of not giving long deals to players above thirty. Former Red Jose Enrique has urged the club to hand the long-serving midfielder a new contract at the earliest. Whether they heed his advice and do the needful remains to be seen.
