Manchester United, at long last, have agreed a deal worth €90 million with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of long-term transfer target Jadon Sancho.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are on the verge of completing the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils have reached an agreement over a transfer fee of €90 million with add-ons, while the agent fees and personal terms have all been agreed as well.
A transfer saga that has now been running for almost a year, Manchester United have been hot on the trails of Jadon Sancho since the summer of 2020. A deal, however, could not materialise as Dortmund did not budge from their £108 million valuation of the England international.
However, the German giants were said to have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the winger to let him go this year should their demands be met, and it looks like they are staying true to their word. Manchester United have been in negotiations with Dortmund over a transfer fee for quite some time now. In fact, the 20-time English champions have also had offers turned down by the Black and Yellows.
At long last, though, the two clubs have been able to arrive at a middle ground. Manchester United will now be shelling out a sum of €90 million to secure the transfer of the 21-year-old England international, including add-ons. With personal terms already being agreed and the agent fees also sorted, the only formality pending is a medical.
However, that may have to wait as Sancho is currently on national duty with England at the UEFA Euro 2020. Nonetheless, Romano has ‘Here We Go’-ed the deal, claiming that the former Manchester City starlet will be signing a five-year contract till the summer of 2026 with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The right-wing has been a major problem for Manchester United for a good part of the last decade. Mason Greenwood looked bright in the position over the past season, but his long-term future remains as a centre-forward. With Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri still lacking the experience at the highest level and Daniel James blowing hot and cold, Manchester United needed to address the problem.
The signing of Sancho, to that end, should take care of the issue in the short and the long run. The 21-year-old, who has surprisingly not been used by Gareth Southgate at the Euros all that much, is coming on the back of a stunning season with Dortmund, finishing with a massive tally of 16 goals and 20 assists from just 38 games in all competitions.
Manchester City had inserted a sell-on clause in their agreement with Dortmund while selling Sancho and are set for a windfall from the deal, an alternate report from Sky Sports claims. Nonetheless, it will still hurt to see one of their own academy prospects join their cross-town rivals, with Sancho expected to complete the transfer to Manchester United once the Euro 2020 is out of the way.
