Transfer News: Arsenal hand trial to Aron Sanchez

Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Aron Sanchez, as sporting director Edu hopes to improve the ranks in the youth squad.

According to Football.London, Arsenal have offered Aron Sanchez the opportunity to make an impression by welcoming him in a trial at the Emirates. The young Peruvian defender is highly regarded as a top talent and was notably listed in his country’s provisional list of players for Copa America 2021.

It is believed that Arsenal are monitoring the South American market in order to unearth hidden gems after new Brexit regulations have made it harder for them to acquire the services of Under-18 players from other European leagues. And their search has now led them towards Sanchez, who currently plies his trade with AD Cantolao in the Peruvian top-flight.

A native of Lima, Sanchez has been a member of the Cantolao youth side since 2018, before the defender was eventually promoted to the senior side at the start of last year. The youngster has since notched up 29 competitive appearances for Cantolao.

Nine of his appearances have come in the ongoing 2021 season, with Sanchez building a formidable defensive partnership alongside the likes of Diego Otoya and Jose Ramirez. He has impressed the onlookers with his defensive commitment while his imposing 1.85m have already made the Peruvian an intimidating presence for the opposing backline.

Sanchez’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Arsenal sporting director Edu now welcoming the youngster for a trial at the Emirates. The Gunners are determined to run a major defensive overhaul in the summer, as they prepare for life without David Luiz, Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin, who is being courted by Atletico Madrid.

Even the returning William Saliba has been linked with a move away from north London, as Arteta looks to add more quality in the defensive unit. Arsenal have already set their sights on Ben White as one of their marquee signings in the summer, but in Aron Sanchez, they will find themselves a talented youngster who has shown a lot of promise.

As mentioned earlier, the 18-year-old has found a lot of success in his native Peru and was perhaps unlucky not to be called up for the national team for Copa America. He is, nevertheless, a hungry young defender who could serve as a smart long-term option for Arsenal.
