Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly the subject of interest from AC Milan, who are plotting an offer for the England international.
According to a report from Football Insider, Serie A giants AC Milan are readying an offer to try and swoop away Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the summer transfer window.
Henderson is a product of the Manchester United academy, having been on the club’s books since 2011 when he signed from the Carlisle United youth setup. The youngster had loan spells away at Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United, with the latter stint proving to be the turning point in his career.
Henderson spent two years with the Blades, helping them to promotion to the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign and following it up with a stunning debut season in the top-flight in 2019/20. This prompted Manchester United to keep the 24-year-old at Old Trafford this past summer and although he did start as the second-choice behind David de Gea, the Englishman became a regular in the final stages of the season.
Indeed, Henderson started 10 of Manchester United’s last 12 Premier League games, although, he was overlooked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the UEFA Europa League final defeat to Villarreal. The goalkeeper ended the campaign with a total of 26 appearances across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in half of those games.
However, heading into the summer transfer window, it is being claimed that Manchester United could be willing to ready to listen to offers for the one-time capped England International. While it was largely believed that it would be de Gea who could be allowed to leave, the Spanish international’s enormous wages are posing a problem for the club to move him on.
Time for a parting of ways? – The curious case of David de Gea and Manchester United
As a result, it could be Henderson who could be set for an exit from Old Trafford, with the aforementioned report even claiming that Manchester United coaches have some concerns over his attitude. In addition, the 24-year-old is himself keen on securing a transfer if he is not the No. 1 for the Red Devils – a status that is far from guaranteed as things stand.
This development has piqued the interest of AC Milan, who are now lining up an offer to sign the 24-year-old. The Rossoneri are set to lose Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer this summer but have already secured Mike Maignan as a replacement. Nevertheless, it seems like they are keen on making a move for Henderson as well.
It remains to be seen if it is de Gea or Henderson that leaves Manchester United this summer. But the 20-time English champions are set to add a new goalkeeper to their roster, with former academy man Tom Heaton set to re-sign on a free transfer.
