Manchester United will have to fork out £30 million in order to acquire the services of Danny Ings, who has been identified as a potential alternative for Harry Kane.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have drawn up a list of alternatives in case they fail in their pursuit of Harry Kane. Southampton forward Danny Ings is among the players included in that list, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues his search for a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Formerly of Liverpool, Ings has been valued at around £30 million by Southampton. The Saints may have little choice but to cash in on their star striker, as his contract at St. Mary’s Stadium expires at the end of next season. It means they might be forced to sell him for free in a year, should they fail to get rid of Ings this summer.
Manchester United are keen on taking advantage of this situation and sign the forward for a cut-price. Their interest in the Southampton star might seem a bit surprising, given the fact that they had recently extended Edinson Cavani’s contract to another year.
However, it appears one of their key attackers in Anthony Martial is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The Frenchman is reportedly courted by Tottenham Hotspur, who are ready to fork out €35 million for his services.
That is where Danny Ings could be a viable target for Manchester United. The former Burnley star is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in the league, due to the success he had at Southampton, scoring 46 goals in a total of 100 competitive appearances.
Ings most notably finished the 2019/20 campaign as one of the league’s top goalscorers with 22 goals. His tally of 12 goals this term might seem contextually underwhelming, but the striker’s progress was halted by frequent injuries. He, nonetheless, has an impressive record of 55 Premier League goals in 140 matches.
At Manchester United, Ings will turn out to be an ideal competitor for Cavani. And having failed to impress during his spell at Liverpool, the Southampton star will relish the opportunity to play for the Red Devils and finally prove himself on the big stages.

That said, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will be keen on investing £30 million for the services of Ings this summer. A lot might depend on how he manages to get rid of his fringe players including Martial, as well as Daniel James and Jesse Lingard, who is wanted by West Ham on a permanent deal.
