Daniel James is back in contention while Amad Diallo and Mason Greenwood are set to start when Manchester United face Wolves in the Premier League.
Manchester United will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways and sign off on their 2020/21 Premier League campaign on a positive note when they lock horns with Wolves at the Molineux Stadium on Sunday evening.
Heading into the game, the Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed an injury boost. Daniel James, who has missed the past few matches with a niggling issue, is back in contention for the trip to the Midlands. However, Anthony Martial remains unavailable despite being back in training whereas Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has also been ruled out of the contest.
Providing an update on the squad in his while speaking to the club media, Solskjaer said, “Dan will be involved. Unfortunately, Anthony won’t make this one for the squad so Harry and Anthony are still working hard to be available for the final. We’re recovering with him [Harry] and resting with him. He’s not at the stage where he can work hard yet. He’s walking on it now but still it’s a long way from walking to playing football.”
With the UEFA Europa League final only a few days away, Manchester United are expected to rotate their troops heavily in order to keep their main players fresh and safeguard them from injuries in a game which has little at stake. So, changes are likely across the pitch, starting from goal wherein Dean Henderson is expected to return in place of David de Gea, who started in the 1-1 draw against Fulham.
Axel Tuanzebe should be the only defender that holds on to his place in the lineup from the midweek clash, with Brandon Williams, Eric Bailly and Alex Telles all expected to come in at the expense of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw, respectively.
Manchester United have also been boosted by the fact that both Scott McTominay and Fred are fit and available after having sustained injuries against Fulham at Old Trafford earlier this week. Neither player is likely to be involved on Sunday though with summer signing Donny van de Beek getting the nod alongside Nemanja Matic in the midfield double pivot.
Moving into the final third, Solskjaer will certainly look to protect his top players Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani as well as Marcus Rashford, who has had fitness problems throughout the season. This should pave the way for Juan Mata to start in the No. 10 role for Manchester United, where he will be flanked by teenage prospects Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga.
Mason Greenwood, who has been in good nick, should get the nod as the lone striker, with the Manchester United prodigy hoping to stake a claim for a starting berth in Gdansk next week. Academy ace Hannibal Mejbri could be involved in some capacity as well at a later stage in the game.
