Manchester United have reportedly made a deadline day approach for AS Roma’s veteran centre-forward Edin Dzeko, who is out of favour at the club.
According to a report from Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by the Express, Premier League giants Manchester United have made a transfer deadline day approach to try and sign veteran striker ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from AS Roma.
The 34-year-old forward has fallen out of favour with the Giallorossi manager Paulo Fonseca over the firing of a backroom staff member and has been training away from the first-team over the past week. As a result, he has missed Roma’s last two matches against Spezia and Verona.
Furthermore, Dzeko is also said to be unhappy with Ryan Friedkin, son of Roma owner Dan, which has left him annoyed at the Italian capital club. This has led to speculations surrounding the former Manchester City striker’s future at Stadio Olimpico, with reports last month claiming that Manchester United had been offered a chance to sign the Bosnian.
And as per the latest update from the aforementioned report, Manchester United have themselves made an approach to try and secure the signing of the 34-year-old striker. The Red Devils have a packed attacking unit, although the departure of Odion Ighalo following the expiry of his loan spell has left a vacancy in the squad.
Furthermore, Anthony Martial has failed to build on his prolific performances last term and has struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis. To that end, bringing in a proven goalscorer like Dzeko, who despite being well into his thirties, has remained a consistent source of goals for Roma, makes sense.
Till date, the former Manchester City striker has plundered 114 goals in over 240 appearances for Roma since joining them in 2015. Prior to his exile from the first-team last month, Dzeko had found the back of the net on eight occasions from 20 matches in all competitions.
A proven performer in the Premier League, Dzeko would offer a lot of value to this Manchester United team, much like Edinson Cavani has been doing since his free transfer last summer. However, the report does add that there is not enough time left in the transfer window for the parties involved to push through a transfer.
