Manchester United are in pole position to secure the services of Independiente del Valle’s rising star Moises Caicedo, who is likely to cost around €5 million.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have made great strides in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo. The club has been in contact with the player’s agents and shouldn’t have too many problems in wrapping up personal terms, although they are yet to decide whether they should sign the youngster.
However, United are in control of the negotiations with Caicedo expected to cost in the region of €5 million. They could also offer a five-year deal for the midfielder, who should join the club in the upcoming January transfer window if the deal gets finalised.
In fact, Caicedo could arrive alongside Amad Traore at Old Trafford next month with the pair hoping to add more options for manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. However, it is fair to point out that neither of them are likely to make a huge impact in the first-team, especially considering how Man United have now emerged as a potential title challenger this season.
But in the Europa League, Caicedo, for one, could have an excellent opportunity of making an impression, with Solskjaer likely to ring in the changes for midweek matches. The uncertainty surrounding the future of Paul Pogba means that the 19-year-old may even emerge as an interesting alternative for Fred and Scott McTominay.

Upon his potential arrival at Old Trafford, Caicedo could become a part of a growing South American contingent at Manchester United, with the likes of Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellestri notably joining the club in the summer. He will also hope to follow his countryman Antonio Valencia’s footsteps, who had made almost 350 competitive appearances for the Red Devils.
Although such records have become quite rare in modern football where players are more likely to switch clubs, Caicedo certainly has the talent to become an asset for any club in European football, having enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence at Independiente del Valle.
The 19-year-old has already racked up 31 competitive appearances for the Ecuadorian outfit, impressing the onlookers with his technical prowess and his ability to move forward and influence the game in the final third. It could make him an interesting option for Solskjaer, though it remains to be seen whether Man United opt to secure the player’s services this winter.
