Juventus reportedly fancy the signing of Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga in an attempt to strengthen their midfield department.

According to a report by Tuttosport, Juventus have shifted their attention towards the idea of signing youngster Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes in a bid to improve their midfield. Juventus are threatening Real Madrid’s prospects of securing the wonderkid’s signature.

Eduardo Camavinga, 18, joined the Rennes set up when he was 11 in 2013. The Frenchman made his senior debut at the age of 16 and has caught the eyes of football fans across the world. Presently, Camavinga has become an integral part of Rennes’ first team and continues to develop further.

Camavinga also made his senior national team debut this year in September and grabbed his first goal versus Ukraine when he scored an overhead kick in a 7-1 route. One of the hottest prospects in world football currently, several clubs are vying for his signature, but not many have the resources to match the asking price of reportedly €70 Million.

Recently, Juventus have joined Real Madrid, who previously looked in pole position to sign the Frenchman.

Under new manager Andrea Pirlo, Juventus seem to prefer a two-man midfield with Adrien Rabiot and Arthur Melo being his first two choices. Juventus also have the young and improving Rodrigo Bentancur and Weston McKennie in their ranks. These four midfielders are all under the age of 25 currently. Along with these 4, they also have the experience of Aaron Ramsey to provide them with another option.

Despite arguably being spoilt for choice in the central midfield department, Juventus are reportedly in the market for a premium midfielder. Initially, Juventus had their eyes on a reunion with Paul “Octopus” Pogba. However, now it seems that Juventus may not be able to finance a deal for the Manchester United star. Especially with Mino Raiola at the helm of things from the player’s end.

Real Madrid, who are currently in a transitional phase due to their ageing midfield, have always looked on pole position for the signing of Eduardo Camavinga. A signing that makes perfect sense for the Los Blancos. However, Fabio Paratici, the Chief Football Officer of Juventus, is believed to be a fan of Camavinga and sees him as a suitable alternative to Paul Pogba.

Juventus’ entry in this race for the youngsters signature makes things interesting. While Juventus may not necessarily need the player at the moment, to miss out on a player of Camavinga’s quality and potential could be something they regret in the future and thus, their interest is worthwhile. Juventus will certainly have to flex their financial muscles if they are to compete with the likes of Real Madrid in this transfer saga.
