AS Monaco are interested in securing the services of Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic, whose days at Santiago Bernabeu are numbered.
According to Todofichajes, Luka Jovic could be offered an opportunity to revive his career, with AS Monaco seemingly keen on securing his services. Their manager Niko Kovac has identified the Real Madrid star as an ideal candidate to shore up his offensive options and has asked the board to make some efforts in signing him in January.
Monaco do not have the funds available to sanction a quick deal between the two clubs. However, they could move for a potential loan deal until the end of the campaign and assess his performances in Ligue 1, before making a decision regarding his future.
Part of a reason why Kovac wants Jovic badly at AS Monaco is that the duo has worked together during their time at Eintracht Frankfurt. In fact, the Serbian forward initially enjoyed his sensational breakthrough in the Bundesliga under the leadership of the current Monaco manager, scoring eight goals in 22 matches during the 2017/18 Bundesliga campaign and helping the Eagles secure the DFB Pokal.
Kovac eventually moved to Bayern Munich in 2018, while Jovic, under new head coach Adi Hutter, enjoyed the season of his career as he netted 17 goals in 32 matches, ultimately earning himself a big-money move to Real Madrid.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old has never really managed to demonstrate those performances at Santiago Bernabeu, often struggling with injuries and lack of form. In fact, Jovic racked up only 420 minutes of league football last season, in what was his debut campaign at Real Madrid.
This season, the Serbian forward is trailing Karim Benzema in the pecking order and it’s very likely that Zinedine Zidane could opt for a new striker rather than banking his hopes on the youngster. Hence, a move to AS Monaco during the January transfer window could make a lot of sense.
The Ligue 1 giants have shown a bit of promise under Kovac but despite scoring 15 goals in the league so far, they are searching for additional firepower in case star striker Wissam Ben Yedder does leave the club, in which case, they cannot be overreliant on the services of new signing Kevin Volland.
Jovic, in that regard, could be an ideal option as he already has the experience of working under Kovac. But importantly, the young forward won’t have to deal with lofty expectations and could improve and grow at a more natural pace, which bodes well for Real Madrid too as the Spanish giants should ideally trust the striker and allow him to prosper elsewhere.
