Liverpool ready to let Nathaniel Clyne leave for free this summer

Liverpool are ready to part ways with right back Nathaniel Clyne come this summer as the Englishman has seriously struggled for minutes under Jurgen Klopp.

As quoted by Trasfermarketweb, Nathaniel Clyne is set to become a free agent by this June, and Liverpool are ready for him to leave for free to a club of his choice.

Clyne moved to Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2015, for nearly £16.5 million and quickly found his place in the Merseyside team as the first choice right back. He was an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s early Liverpool team when the German manager had just joined. After having a crucial role to play for a few seasons, life came at him fast.

During the latter stages of the 2016/17 season, Clyne was a regular, but suddenly in the news for a heavy injury when he was not included in England’s team to face France and Scotland in June. While the initial reports suggested that he was carrying an injury, insiders suggested that the 29 year old had tested positive in an in house drugs test carried out by Liverpool.

The Englishman was practically marginalised from the first team, and played just 3 Premier League games through the entirety of 2017/18, even though the drug test report came out to be hoax.

Clyne could not make a return to the Liverpool first-team as he had been replaced by a certain Trent Alexander-Arnold from the Liverpool academy, quickly establishing himself as the first choice right back for Klopp. The former Crystal Palace defender was loaned out to AFC Bournemouth in January, 2019, where he was able to play first team football in the PL.

As seen in his tenure under Eddie Howe, he is still quite capable to a job for a bottom half club like Burnley, Newcastle, or West Ham. Clyne could give players in these teams a run for their money given his attacking capacity, and experience in the Premier League. He turns 29 this April and has a lot of time to turn around his career even though it is currently following a tragic trajectory.
