Daniel James is reportedly set to be rewarded with a new contract, which will be worth £50,000 per week, after an impressive debut season.
According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United winger Daniel James is in line to be given a contract extension with his wages rising to £50,000-a-week.
Welsh forward James moved to Manchester United from Swansea City in the summer of 2019 and has quickly found his feet at the club. He has constantly improved, despite being played in three different positions by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Thrust into action straightaway despite making the step up to the Premier League, James took little time to settle in and has become a regular for Manchester United due to the several injuries they have faced as the season has progressed.
James has taken this opportunity in his stride and has emerged as an important player for the Red Devils, delivering the goods once again this week as Manchester United took on LASK in the UEFA Europa League.
In his 27 Premier League appearances, James has 3 goals and 6 assists, which is not bad for a player in first top-flight campaign. Moreover, he has also played an important role in the Europa League, appearing 4 times. In fact, he has been so impressive that Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs drew comparisons to James with Cristiano Ronaldo
The Sun reports that, according to an Old Trafford insider, James did not expect to be so involved, but has impressed the coaching facility with his attitude both on and off the pitch, and that Manchester United want to secure his services with an improved contract.
James is currently on a £35,000 per week contract, but was promised a wage hike if he managed to establish himself as a first-team constant over the course of the season, as per the report. Moreover, he is also entitled to bonuses, for goal returns and Champions League qualification. The latest deal will take his wages up to £50,000 per week.
Things could have gone very differently for James whose move to Leeds United in the summer seemed inevitable. Nonetheless, James more than deserves this pay rise, after proving himself to the Manchester United faithfuls.
He has done a job for Solskjaer, having been deployed in various positions since his £21 million arrival. A bumper new deal is on the cards for the Welsh international now, and all that seems to remain is an official announcement from Manchester United.
