Manchester United have reportedly set an asking price of €100 million for wantaway superstar Paul Pogba, who is keen on a return to Juventus in the summer.
As per a report from The Guardian, Manchester United seem to be preparing for the inevitable departure of superstar Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window and have slapped a €100 million (£83 million) price tag on the French midfielder.
The Pogba-Manchester United transfer saga has been going on since the last summer, when the Frenchman came out and claimed in the press that he was seeking a new challenge in his career. A move to Real Madrid was strongly mooted, but nothing materialized and the 26-year-old stayed put at Old Trafford.
However, the rumours have refused to die down, with Pogba continuing to be linked with an exit from Manchester United ahead of the next summer window. The midfielder’s agent, Mino Raiola, has only fueled the speculations, most recently claiming that his client would like to return to Juventus ahead of the next season.
In a recent interview, Raiola said, “Pogba feels at home in Italy. Italy is like his second home or family, same for Ibrahimovic. That’s why Paul would like to come back to Juventus. But we’ll go to speak about that just after Euro 2020. Pogba wants to play at the best levels always. But he can’t escape Manchester United now, in this moment where the club is not having a good period.”
While Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been firm on his stance that Pogba will remain an integral part of the club next season, it seems though that the club are now preparing for a potential departure next summer, with The Guardian claiming that the Red Devils have set an asking price of €100 million for the Frenchman.
However, there is a belief that the price tag might be deemed high by Pogba’s suitors, considering that the midfielder has hardly played in the ongoing campaign. Indeed, the 26-year-old has featured just eight times in the 2019-20 season for Manchester United, with constant injury problems eating into his playing time.
The Red Devils though, are hopeful that a strong showing in the backend of the season and the UEFA Euro 2020 with France will help them recoup a large share of the transfer fees that they shelled out on Pogba to re-sign him from Juventus back in the summer of 2016.
Since returning to Old Trafford from Italy almost four years ago in a club-record €110 million deal, Pogba has blown hot and cold. The 26-year-old has made 143 appearances in his second stint at Manchester United, scoring 31 goals in the process, winning the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League in the process.
Pogba’s contract at Manchester United expires in 2021, although the club has the option of extending it by another year. As things stand, it seems like the Frenchman is closer to the exit doors at Old Trafford. But, it remains to be seen if he ends up securing a transfer back to Juventus in the summer.
