Transfer News: Arsenal enter Said Benrahma chase

Arsenal have reportedly joined fellow Premier League outfit Leicester City in pursuit of highly-rated Brentford winger Said Benrahma.

According to The Sun, Said Benrahma is set to be in demand when the transfer window opens in the summer. The Brentford winger is highly-rated and has enjoyed his football to the extent that the likes of Leicester City, Newcastle and Arsenal have grown to admire the Algerian star.

24-year-old Benrahma joined Brentford in the summer of 2018 from OGC Nice. The Algerian was a hit from the get-go, ending the 2018-19 Championship campaign with 10 goals and 15 assists to his name. His current form though, means he is on course to better his maiden season in England.

8 goals and 6 assists so far in the league has been one of the few reasons Brentford find themselves 5th on the table and in contention to at least get to the Playoffs for promotion, if not a direct promotion. Such great form warrants interest from Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Leicester in the queue.

Arsenal spent heavily during the summer to reinforce the wing and brought in Nicolas Pepe. So far though, the Ivorian has been far from impressive, with just 3 goals and 2 assists in the league. Pepe has been good in UEFA Europa League. But, league form is essential and that has been disappointing.

Bukayo Saka and Reiss Nelson have managed to establish themselves within the first-team setup and there are reports that Cedric Soares was brought in to ensure Ainsley Maitland-Niles can be played further up on the wing. Still, Mikel Arteta is intent on adding to his options out wide in attack and hence, Benrahma has emerged as an option.

Leicester though, might seem like a more lucrative project for Benrahma considering the track record of the club of them being a career-defining club for lower league movers like James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and more. Newcastle are also an option and could be ideal if Benrahma wants regular first-team opportunities in the Premier League.

Benrahma is valued at £30 million but any move will hinge on whether Brentford can march forward with a magical run and find themselves promoted to the Premier League for the upcoming season. Should Arsenal or other Premier League clubs play their cards right, they might just get their hands on the next explosive Algerian winger in England.
