Barcelona’s teenage sensation Ansu Fati is reportedly set to be rewarded with a new long-term contract after breaking into the senior team this season.
According to a report from Catalunya Radio, as carried by Spanish publication AS, Barcelona’s latest breakout star Ansu Fati is set to be handed a new bumper contract, following his breakthrough into the first-team in the ongoing campaign.
Ansu Fati joined the Barcelona youth academy in 2012 from fellow La Liga outfit Sevilla at the age of ten years. The teenage forward made history last month, as he became the second-youngest player to represent Barcelona in La Liga when he came on as a substitute in the champions’ 5-2 win over Real Betis.
Fati went on to score his first goal for Barcelona in the subsequent fixture against Osasuna and followed it up with another sensational display against Valencia, where he scored and assisted one goal apiece. The Guinean attacker became the youngest player to represent Barcelona in Europe, aged 16 years, 221 days old, when he started against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
While there is a possibility that his game time will reduce once Barcelona have all their attacking options fit and firing, there is no denying the impact that Fati has made at the top level in the past month. And, as a reward for his breakthrough performances, the Catalans are set to hand the 16-year-old a new long-term contract.
Fati had put pen to a new deal only this past summer, extending his stay at the club till 2022, but is now set for another extension. As per the aforementioned report, Fati will be offered a five-year contract, which will tie him down at Camp Nou till the summer of 2024.
The report further adds that the Guinean wonderkid will receive a sum of €700,000 as renewal bonus. But, his wages will be decided based on whether he becomes a full-time member of the first-team moving forward or continues with the Barcelona B side.
Should he stay with the B team, Fati will pocket wages of around €300,000 per year, but should he become a permanent member of the senior team, the 16-year-old will earn €1 million-a-year, with an increment of €250,000 per year for the first three years of his contract.
Fati, who had snubbed Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid to sign for the Blaugrana, looks like a fine prospect. And being rewarded with a new and improved contract would only serve as further motivation for the youngster to keep building on his promising start to life at the top level.
