Jose Mourinho has been rejecting various management offers as he waits on Real Madrid to knock on his doors if they are to part ways with Zinedine Zidane.
The season might have just begun, but managerial changes are mooted already across Europe. Not all big clubs had the best of starts to begin their respective seasons, and many believe Real Madrid could see yet another change of manager. However, according to AS, if Los Blancos part ways with Zinedine Zidane, Jose Mourinho might be interested in taking over.
The report does not contain any specifics as to whether Real Madrid are on the verge of sacking Zidane following a mixed start to the La Liga campaign. However, in case such a scenario is to take place then Mourinho has reportedly declared himself available to take over the reins and lead the club into the next phase.
The report also suggests that Mourinho, since leaving Manchester United last December, has had plenty of offers from clubs, all of which he has so far rejected. Mourinho is keen on returning to the Real Madrid hot seat where he won the La Liga title during his previous tenure.
Rumours are circling that the Spanish giants could part ways with Zidane for a second time after a slow start to their season. Zidane was furious at his players for letting in a late equaliser from Real Valladolid in their 1-1 draw. After the match, Zidane launched a tirade against his players.
“We had done the most difficult part, scoring a goal, and then we need to get the ball out of there for the rest of the game. We know we have to play the 90 minutes. We can’t just play 50 or 60 minutes.”
Now that might be anger towards the way his team lost two precious points, and in no way, it suggests he could be departing. Zidane brought immense success to Real Madrid during his first stint, during which period the club won three consecutive Champions League crowns. He left at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The Frenchman returned at the near end of last season after Real Madrid dismissed Santiago Solari. It was between Solari’s sacking and Zidane’s re-appointment that Real Madrid were reportedly in talks with Mourinho over a return to the Santiago Bernabeau. Nothing materialised on that front, as the Merengues chose to convince Zidane to return to the club.
However, it remains to be seen if the Frenchman can bring instant success back to Real Madrid. If the team’s faltering form continues, the club may have no choice but to sack Zidane from his post and look for a new appointment. In such a scenario, Mourinho, who is currently without a club, could be an attractive choice to take over the hot seat once more.
