The second week was all about Teemu Pukki. The Norwich forward was one of our five picks to spend your free transfer on and if you were somehow persuaded to bring Pukki in, the forward gave 17 points to the users. The Finnish international has been a popular pick, with the star now in 20.8% of the Fantasy Premier League teams.
Jordan Pickford kept a clean sheet and hence, was among the points. But, our picks of Jamie Vardy and Daniel James didn’t quite pan out. Manuel Lanzini did give his users 8 points. So, all in all, 3 of our 5 tips were on the mark. Let us now move into Gameweek 3.
Note: Since, we talk about Free Transfer here, we must assume that the players named are not already in majority of the squads. Hence, we have used a blanket policy in the fact that we will only be naming options that have been picked by less than 15% of the users and nearer to the 10% mark.
Bernard (Everton) – Midfielder – £6.5
Bernard was the difference between a draw and a win for Everton against Watford. While there are calls for Alex Iwobi to be introduced into the starting lineup, Marco Silva is unlikely to forego the influence of Bernard on the field. The Brazilian also provides a heavy differential, with just 1.9% of the teams consisting of the Everton star.
Pedro (Chelsea) – Midfielder – £7.0
A less likely pick but one that can really shine for the users that select him. Pedro is a regular under Frank Lampard, especially till Callum Hudson-Odoi is back to full fitness. The Spaniard seems the perfect fit for Lampard’s free-flowing attacking system and will definitely get points in the coming matchdays, if not purely Gameweek 3.
Norwich showed their defensive frailties against Liverpool and proved that they are susceptible to switching off at the back, which makes Pedro a viable option for other than the 4% users that already have him.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester) – Forward – £8.9
Another gameweek, another attempt to pick Jamie Vardy. The Leicester star was one of our picks for Gameweek 2 and while he did not manage to score beyond the routine 2 points from the matchday, expect the Englishman to come online soon. Owned by just 7.9%, many users have actually gotten rid of Vardy in lieu of the more in-form forwards like Teemu Pukki and Ashley Barnes.
Up against a Sheffield United who have had a good start to their Premier League campaign, the Foxes will be reliant on Vardy to provide the goods in a comparatively easier fixture compared to the one in Matchday 2 against Chelsea.
Ashley Barnes (Burnley) – Forward – £6.6
Not really a tip one has to give, Ashley Barnes is the in-form star for Burnley and up against a Watford that have had a woeful 2019 so far, Barnes will be tipped to add to his tally of goals. Picked by just 6.8% of the users, which is rather surprising, given his price and his form, the Englishman is a better option we feel, than Teemu Pukki, who will be up against Chelsea.
Erik Lamela (Tottenham) – Midfielder – £6.0
This is a bit of a wildcard going into Matchday 3. But, based on Lamela’s performance against Manchester City, it will be hard for Mauricio Pochettino to justify benching him against Newcastle. Picked by just 2.1% of the users, Lamela could prove to be the differential for the ones that have him in the squad.
Newcastle are coming into the game on the back of a woeful result against Norwich and Spurs are likely to run riot. If Lamela starts, which looks likely after his performance against City, count on him to rack up points.
