Transfer News: Celtic reject improved £25 million Arsenal bid for Kieran Tierney

Celtic have reportedly rejected the improved offer from Arsenal worth £25 million for Kieran Tierney, with the club not accepting of the way the bid was structured.

According to The Scottish Sun, Kieran Tierney might have to wait a little bit longer before his awaited Premier League move. Celtic have rejected the second bid from Arsenal worth £25 million, with the club having problems with the structure of the bid rather than the pure offer.

Celtic reportedly value Tierney in the same ballpark but are looking to get more of an upfront fee than proposed in Arsenal’s offer. The Gunners are likely to return with a third offer with a better structure and an upfront cash closer to the £25 million valuation.

Kieran Tierney has been proving himself as not just a defender but a leader as well, captaining Celtic and Scotland as well. His leadership qualities will be welcome by Unai Emery at Arsenal, especially with current club captain and leader in defence Laurent Koscielny demanding a move away from the club.

With four years left on his current Celtic deal, the ball is in the Hoops’ court, with the Scottish giants unlikely to let Tierney go without getting full value for their prized asset. Arsenal though, could run into financial problems if they do present Celtic with a third offer that contains an upfront payment of close to £25 million.

The Gunners have several other areas to strengthen before the current transfer window closes and have a restricted budget to work with. Spending more than half of their remaining budget on a single player will be questionable, especially with the left-back area not in as much of a desperate need of strengthening as the central defence and the wide attack.

Their hopes of agreeing a structured bid though, seems to be fading, with Celtic rejecting their second offer. If Unai Emery is desperate to add Tierney to his squad before the 2019-20 season commences, Arsenal will have to fork out a chunk of the fee, if not all, upfront, which means the Spaniard will have to either ask the Board for more funds or be content in the fact that he will not be able to strengthen all the areas that need addressing.
