Transfer Rumour: Barcelona reignite interest in Alexander Isak

Borussia Dortmund star Alexander Isak, who is currently on loan at Willem II, is reportedly back on the agenda of Barcelona for the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are reigniting their interest in Alexander Isak. The Borussia Dortmund has been having a good season in Eredivisie for Willem II and is reportedly back on Barcelona’s radar as the Catalan giants eye attacking reinforcements in the summer.

The report states that Barcelona are impressed by Isak’s form in the Eredivisie and have decided to add the youngster to their shortlist for the summer, especially with Dortmund opting to listen to offers for the forward at the end of the season.

Alexander Isak moved to Borussia Dortmund amid much speculation that linked him to almost every big club in Europe, including Barcelona. The youngster found opportunities hard to come by this season at Dortmund and was hence, sent on loan to Willem II in January.

Isak has proven himself to be more than ready for regular first-team football, with a record of 10 goals and 3 assists in Eredivisie thus far, in just 10 games. Dortmund though, are currently stacked with options in attack and are unlikely to have much room for Isak.

The Yellow Brigade have thus, decided to listen to offers for the striker, which in turn has alerted the big clubs again of Isak’s availability.

Barcelona have Luis Suarez as the only natural striking option right now. The Uruguayan has returned to form but is already 32 and needs to be phased out while also needing an ideal rotation option in the squad. The Catalans were looking at several names, big and otherwise.

But, Isak could be perfect. The 19-year-old has the best of both worlds of attack. Isak has the height to be dangerous in the air and the skillset to drive fear into the heart of the opposition. Compared to compatriot and Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the 19-year-old is similar to the former Barcelona star in many ways.

Isak also has agility in his locker, which makes him the perfect prospect for Barcelona to pursue in the summer. With Dortmund ready to listen to offers for the 19-year-old, he is unlikely to cost anywhere near the amount that is expected to be incurred if they pursue the likes of Marcus Rashford and others.

Isak could also be tempted to move to Barcelona with hopes of landing the permanent gig of becoming the replacement for Luis Suarez, in due time. It will be interesting to see where this rumour ends up.
