Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly continuing to scout and monitor the situation surrounding the in-demand Hertha Berlin youngster Arne Maier.
In the modern era of football, the top clubs have made it a point of securing the best young talents as early as possible. It is still rare to see most of the top clubs flock around a common prospect, as has happened in the case of Hertha Berlin youngster Arne Maier. Among the clubs interested, Arsenal and Manchester United have continued to scout the player extensively.
Arne Maier was not really a hyped talent back in Germany. But, his potential was first recognised when he was part of the Under-19 Bundesliga winning Hertha Berlin side, with many praising his tenacity and matured presence in the middle of the park. Able to play in all three positions in central midfield, Arne Maier has broken through in tremendous fashion in 2018.
The 2018-19 campaign is serving as the breakout campaign for the Hertha Berlin star, with the midfielder playing each and every minute of the club’s Bundesliga season so far. His talent has brought forth interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and many more top European clubs.
Arsenal have adapted wondrously to Unai Emery’s tactics after more than two decades of football under Arsene Wenger. One of the highlights has been summer arrivals Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, who look made for Emery’s tactics. Granit Xhaka has improved multiple folds as well.
But, there are no real options beyond the three, with Mohamed Elneny not inspiring much confidence in himself while Aaron Ramsey has mostly been deployed in an advanced position. To add to it, even if the Welsh star is deployed in holding midfield, he is tipped to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires and thus, cannot be counted as a real option in the scheme of things.
For Manchester United, the case is much simpler. Nemanja Matic has been woeful this season but is still being played by Jose Mourinho out of desperation, with the squad lacking a natural alternative to the out-of-form Serbian. For all we know, all Matic could need to come back in form is an extended rest, which the manager would provide only if there is an alternative.
Arne Maier is already proving he can cut it at the top level and has been credited with a great hand in Hertha Berlin’s fortunes this season, with the club currently sixth on the table, just two points away from Champions League qualification places.
While the report states that Maier is rated at around £15 million by Hertha Berlin, we reckon the price would be higher, judging by the stature of the clubs interested in the midfielder. As far as Maier is concerned, a move might not be in his best interests, with neither Arsenal nor Manchester United capable of guaranteed anywhere near the kind of status he is enjoying at Hertha Berlin.
Expect Arsenal and Manchester United to continue scouting the midfielder. If there is any movement in the transfer market surrounding Arne Maier, it is likely to take place after the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
