Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are reportedly plotting a summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur and England superstar Harry Kane.

Barcelona are pondering over making a whopping £200 million move to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the next summer window, according to an exclusive report from the Daily Star.

The 25-year-old England international is widely regarded as one of the most lethal marksmen in the game at the moment. A graduate of the Tottenham academy, Kane has established himself as one of the hottest strikers across Europe over the past few years.

A two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, Kane has been constantly linked with a move away from the North Londoners, with European champions Real Madrid touted as the most likely destination for the centre-forward. However, now the Merengues’ arch rivals Barcelona too have joined the chase for the England captain. ‘

Barcelona, currently sitting on top of the pile in La Liga, are believed to be planning for the future, as concerns grow over Luis Suarez’s longevity. The Uruguayan international started off the 2018-19 campaign rather slowly, and while he has made up good ground since, the Catalans are wary of the fact that he will soon be turning 32 years of age.

Moreover, the former Liverpool superstar has had long-term issues with a chronic knee injury. He was sidelined with the same issue for three games in all competitions, before making a return in the 4-0 win over RCD Espanyol on Saturday night.

Keeping all these factors in mind, Barcelona have already started identifying potential candidates to take over from the 31-year-old in the next year or so. Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino was understood to be someone that the club were interested in, but it looks like they have now narrowed down upon Kane.

The 25-year-old has gone on to make 233 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 153 goals in the process and setting up 24 more for his teammates. In the ongoing campaign, Kane has already bagged 13 goals in 21 matches across all competitions and has two assists to go along with.

Kane has proven himself on the international stages as well, as he led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, ending the tournament as the Golden Boot winner. The striker has 20 international goals in 35 caps for the Three Lions.

The Tottenham Hotspur superstar has more than five years left on his contract with the club and has reiterated in the past that he has no intentions of leaving the North London outfit anytime soon. Tottenham too, on their part, have made it clear that their most-prized asset is not for sale.

However, with the costs of the new stadium continuing to rise courtesy of the delays, Spurs’ hands could be forced, should Barcelona come up with an offer in excess of £150 million. And given the lack of trophies, Kane too, could be tempted to move to a club where he will be competing for honours on multiple fronts.

The next summer transfer window promises to be a crucial one for both Barcelona and Tottenham. The Catalans will be looking to replace Suarez adequately, whereas the Lilywhites will be hoping to hold onto their star players as other clubs come circling.

It remains to be seen if Kane remains a Spurs player by the time the next season rolls in, or whether he will be turning up for the Spanish champions instead.
