Barcelona are reportedly ready to step up interest in breakout Genoa star Krzysztof Piatek, who is generating interest from Real Madrid and other top clubs.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Barcelona are ready to solve their goalscoring crisis by stepping up their interest in a potential Luis Suarez replacement. Genoa star Krzysztof Piatek has been turning heads with his start in Serie A and has already been linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and a few other top European clubs.
Krzysztof Piatek’s story is no less than a fairytale. Brought in from Cracovia Krakow in the summer of 2018, the Polish youngster has hit the ground running in Serie A. While he had an average of a goal every two games at Cracovia Krakow, Piatek has managed a staggering 13 goals in just 8 matches so far for Genoa.
His scintillating form has thrust him into the limelight, with the advent of comparisons to compatriot Robert Lewandowski. Piatek has become a hot property in the European market, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham all interested in the 23-year-old.
Barcelona have been struggling in front of goal. Ousmane Dembele started the season hot but has since slowed down to an extent. Luis Suarez has not really got going so far, which has seen Lionel Messi shoulder most of the burden in front of goal. There is no real alternative to Suarez to lead the frontline, which has seen the club register interest in Piatek.
Real Madrid have problems of their own. Unlike Barcelona, they no longer boast of a predatory goal machine within their squad. Gareth Bale stepped up in the beginning.
But, his form has fizzled out of late, same as Karim Benzema. Florentino Perez has been looking to replace Benzema and this sordid goalless run from Real Madrid could convince him that it is finally time for a big money move.
However, Krzysztof Piatek has other admirers as well. Manchester City and Liverpool might not be in need of another forward. But, Tottenham would love to add to their attacking line, with Piatek likely to act as a support act to Harry Kane.
Brought in for a fee around £4 million, his value must have shot up multiple folds. While Genoa would prefer to keep Piatek, who has been the one to replace Giovanni Simeone’s presence within the squad, the Italian outfit could use the interest to their benefit.
Genoa could rake in huge revenue from Piatek’s sale and use it to reinvest into the entire squad. It will be a tough decision for Genoa. Would they be willing to sacrifice success and goals for financial gain? The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and others would hope it is the case.
As for Piatek, it’s all about goals for him, on the pitch and off it as well.
