Real Madrid are considering a cheaper alternative in Julian Draxler to other primary targets and the player himself is keen on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid could be the next club for German International Julian Draxler, as he is reportedly unhappy at French Champions PSG. Don Balon is reporting that Draxler has already spoken to Real Madrid President Florentino Perez about a move and is now willing to swap Paris for Madrid in the summer.
Madrid are looking at various players as they look to fill the enormous void left in the attack by Cristiano Ronaldo who recently joined Juventus. That said, Madrid have been exploring options, particularly for players expert on the left side of attack including Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and fellow PSG teammates Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
But a move for Hazard remains a complicated one, and that could force the Champions League winners to look elsewhere. Their attention could be turned by the reported availability of Julian Draxler of PSG, and hence the report on a possible move for the German International.
Being a left-sided player himself, he saw his position at PSG come under intense threat last season with the arrival of Neymar in a record-breaking deal from Barcelona. Despite that, Draxler went on to make 47 appearances in all competition for the Parisians, where he also scored five goals and laid ten assists for his teammates.
He could possibly look for a move this summer, especially if Real Madrid come calling and because Madrid might not sign any of their top targets. Draxler is only 24 now and has a long future ahead of him and also holds the interest of many other teams from the Premier League and Europe.
PSG’s situation, on the other hand, could also facilitate such a move. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his club are under intense scrutiny after playing on the edge with Financial Fair Play rules, after big moves for both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
That said, the Parisians are in desperate need to generate funds before the end of the current window to balance their reportedly unruly books. A sale of many players is expected to cover that problem, and among those players, Julian Draxler could be one of them to depart.
Draxler is expected to fetch a fee of around €70 million in the current market, and if an offer in that region is to be submitted by a club, then PSG are more likely to accept it. But Draxler might be a stop-gap option for Madrid, who might dip into the market at the next possible opportunity to land their primary targets in Hazard, Mbappe or Neymar.
Draxler might even turn out to be a decent signing for Madrid, as he is definitely a player of quality, and entirely on the affordable range even by Madrid’s standards. Perez is wary of spending more than €100 million on a single player and hence the Draxler move could be a possibility because his other targets are going to cost at least double that price.
