Transfer Rumour: Liverpool turn attention to Robin Olsen

Liverpool have turned their attention to a new goalkeeping prospect, with the Reds scouring the possibility of signing Copenhagen goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

According to The Mirror, Robin Olsen is a prospect that is piquing the interest of Liverpool. The Reds have been scouring the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper to man the line at Anfield. And it seems, the FC Copenhagen star has emerged as a interesting option.

Robin Olsen has quietly built up a great reputation for himself, mainly in the Nordic region. Olsen has racked up 7 trophies to his name in Sweden and Denmark and has become the first-choice for the Swedish National Team. The 28-year-old has reciprocated with brilliant performances for the national side as well.

Olsen has racked up the numbers in goal for Sweden, not conceding a goal for 548 minutes, up until the deflected effort from Marco Reus in the 2-1 defeat to Germany in the second match of the World Cup. With 7 clean sheets in his last 10 appearances for the Swedish National Team, his display against Germany would have piqued the attention of many clubs, including Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has been scouring the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper, especially after Loris Karius’s costly errors in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid. Liverpool seemed to have locked in on Alisson Becker. But, the Brazilian international seems like a distant dream now, especially with Real Madrid his preferred destination.

Liverpool have also been reported to be edging closer to a deal to sign Thomas Strakosha from Lazio. But, with no deal confirmed as of yet, the report suggests Liverpool are still keeping a keen eye on other targets as well, with Olsen arriving on their radar.

Olsen’s World Cup campaign could see him become a wanted quantity in the transfer market. But, Liverpool must keep in mind the fact that Olsen has not played in a big league or for a big team so far in his career.

The 28-year-old though, possesses all the right skills and has proven himself as a goalkeeper that is able to protect the goal against opponents of a higher stature. The World Cup campaign might just provide evidence to the same, if Sweden do end up going far in Russia.

The towering goalkeeper is however, more a traditional goalkeeper and is likely to not be at Copenhagen when the new season starts, especially with the interest that his skills will generate once the World Cup ends.
