Arsene Wenger is confident Jack Wilshere will stay at the club after confirming a long-term deal is on the table which the midfielder is yet to sign.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere’s future is still up in the air as the player is yet to sign the long-term deal that is on the table. The Mirror reports, and according to Arsene Wenger, he will make his decision come to the end of the season, but the manager remains confident Arsenal’s academy graduate to stay at the Emirates.
Wilshere’s contract situation has been a part of Arsenal’s much-maligned issues with handling player deals from the start of this season. The contract situation saw the departure of Alexis Sanchez with six months left on his deal, but Mesut Ozil signed a new one, with Wenger hoping Wilshere will follow suit.
However, it’s been reported that Wilshere was unhappy with what Arsenal were offering him in comparison to many new signings and current players. Arsenal’s new deal for Wilshere will see the England midfielder earn even lesser than what he currently makes, although the deal is heavily incentivised.
Wilshere’s displeasure on one side, but Arsenal’s idea for a pay-cut on his basic salary was partly due to the midfielder’s poor record with injuries and fitness. But many believe Wilshere has proved his part regarding fitness and game time this season, featuring prominently in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League.
Although, despite Wenger continuing to believe the midfielder would commit to the new deal, there has been seemingly no progress in improving the deal. Instead, there is a belief Arsenal’s offer for Wilshere is the final one and it is now up to the midfielder to accept terms.
This contract stand-off between Arsenal and Wilshere hasn’t gone unnoticed, as many clubs from the Premier League and Europe have shown interest in acquiring the midfielder. Everton are believed to be front-runners, with Sam Allardyce’s side offering wages which Wilshere’s demanding.
Arsene Wenger insists that the midfielder will decide on his future at the end of the season, though is confident before the world cup. Wenger believes it will not make any sense for Wilshere to go to the World cup with his future hanging up in the air.
Wilshere has been at Arsenal throughout his playing career so far, barring loan spells with Bolton and Bournemouth. He joined Arsenal’s academy aged nine and could prolong his career with the Gunners further if he signs the new deal tabled.
