Arsenal are looking to launch a summer bid for Luka Modric and are reportedly prepared to stump up €60 million to land the Real Madrid playmaker.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Luka Modric could be heading towards the Premier League in the summer. The Croatian playmaker is being chased by several clubs. But, it is Arsenal that are looking to take the initiative, with reports that the Gunners are willing to stump up around €60 million to land the midfielder.
Luka Modric is reportedly wanted in Italy while the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have also been touted as potential destinations. Arsenal though, have been named as the only one that have made progress in the pursuit and are ready with a cash bid to bring the Croat in.
While Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly the superstar in the Real Madrid squad, Luka Modric has been the lynchpin in almost all of the club’s triumphant seasons since joining from Tottenham. The Croat’s silky movement combined with his vision makes him one of the most potent midfielders in world football.
Already 32, there has been talk of Real Madrid looking to pass the baton on and replace the Croatian within the starting eleven. Modric himself, could be looking to return to his old hunting ground – the Premier League. And chances are he will likely be granted his wish, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all interested in the midfielder.
At Arsenal, a summer rebuild looks imminent. And with Jack Wilshere more than likely to exit the club, having not signed an extension yet, there will be a creative void in midfield, one that Modric can fill with aplomb. The 32-year-old would also add some much-needed winning mentality within the setup, something that seems to have gone amiss.
According to the report, Arsenal are prepared to bid around €60 million, which, for a 32-year-old is more than value-for-money. Real Madrid are likely to cash in on Modric, given their plan to phase him out of the playing eleven and bring in the necessary replacements.
The interesting point will be whether Arsenal, as a project, will interest Modric, especially at this stage of his career, where he is unlikely to want to be a part of a rebuilding process. Chances are, if Liverpool or Tottenham manage to strike some sort of a deal with Real Madrid for Modric, the Croat would prefer them over Arsenal.
