Dani Carvajal is the latest superstar to enter the radar of Liverpool, who could be looking to beef up their defence with the arrival of the Real Madrid man.
If the report from Spanish publication Don Balon is to be believed, Dani Carvajal is a wanted man in the Premier League, bizarrely by Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly looking to bring the Real Madrid defender in once the summer transfer window opens.
Dani Carvajal has been one of the rare success stories of the Real Madrid academy setup. As is often the case with Real Madrid academy graduates, Carvajal was sold to Bayer Leverkusen with a buyback option – a clause that was triggered by Real Madrid after just one impressive season in Bundesliga.
And since then, Carvajal has gone on to become a regular on the right for Real Madrid, amassing 190 senior appearances for the club thus far. Earlier in the season, the Spaniard had a health scare and was sidelined for an undefined tenure. But, Carvajal has since managed to make the recovery and look like his old self at right-back.
But, his performances have now drawn an unlikely interest from Liverpool, according to the report.
At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has several options at right-back. While Nathaniel Clyne looked great before the long-term injury and is now on the brink of recovery, the German also has the young duo of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold competing for the spot till he returns.
Thus, the need for a right-back is not present at the moment for Liverpool. But, as per the report, Klopp is keen to bring Carvajal to Anfield to be a regular on the right side of the defence.
The report does add that, with Liverpool now having the cash to burn, following the cash influx from Coutinho’s big-money move to Barcelona, Klopp believes he can match any offer Real Madrid or any suitors, for that matter, will be ready and willing to pay for the 26-year-old.
But, the report also iterates that Carvajal is uninterested in the prospect of joining Liverpool, with Real Madrid his dream club, having dreamt of putting on Los Blancos jersey whilst he was in the academy teams.
To add to it, Carvajal is already an established regular at one of the most iconic clubs in the world – Real Madrid, where he has even lesser competition at this moment of time than he would have if he joined Liverpool.
This looks like a rumour that has been created, probably just for the sake of it. Expect Dani Carvajal to stay put at Real Madrid, for the summer and beyond, considering the fact that the Spanish heavyweights themselves do not have many other options in the said position, with Achraf Hakimi the only other player who is a natural at right-back.
