Transfer News: Arsenal, Tottenham plotting January move for Dani Ceballos

Arsenal and Tottenham are among a number of clubs that are scouring the possibility of a January move for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

If reports from Spanish publication Diario Gol are to be believed, Arsenal and Tottenham are among a host of clubs looking to take advantage of the frustration surrounding Dani Ceballos and a lack of regular game time for the Spaniard at Real Madrid. AS Roma and AC Milan are a few other clubs interested in the midfielder.

Dani Ceballos joined Real Madrid amidst much hype surrounding his potential. The player was being tailed heavily by Barcelona before he chose to join their arch-rivals in the summer transfer window. And while the midfielder has been touted as a future mainstay in the starting eleven for Real Madrid, he has been frustrated with a lack of adequate game time.

With just 406 minutes of action in total in all competitions thus far, Ceballos is reportedly far from content with his current situation at Santiago Bernabeu. There are even reports that while Zinedine Zidane is aware of his potential, the manager never wanted the player, who was a Perez signing.

And this has opened up a window of opportunity for some clubs. Arsenal and Tottenham are two such clubs who are exploring the possibility of bringing the 21-year-old to the Premier League while AC Milan and Roma aim to oversee the player’s transfer to Italy.

Tottenham look thin on quality and depth this season, which has been evident in their far from adequate results in the Premier League thus far. Mauricio Pochettino needs to reinforce his squad to salvage their 2017-18 campaign and the manager is looking to bulk up the options in the middle of the park.

Arsenal, too, would love to add some more creativity to their lineup. Also, the Gunners have always done well with the presence of a creative Spaniard in the midfield – Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla – in recent times and Ceballos could be the next to follow suit.

The Gunners’ need for additions could also be down to the contract situation surrounding Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere, with the duo’s contract up for expiry at the end of the season.

Ceballos could also do with an extended run of games, especially with the World Cup right around the corner, which might be a huge catalyst in his decision to leave Real Madrid – temporarily or otherwise.
