Reigning European champions Real Madrid dropped points for their second consecutive game as Levante’s early opener restricted them to a 1-1 draw
Zinedine Zidane’s men were held to a draw by Valencia before the international break and they had to endure a similar fate against Levante. Lucas Vazquez’s goal was only enough for yet another tie for Real Madrid. The club appeared to be growing increasingly frustrated at their inability to break down Levante’s stubborn defence.
Interestingly, Real made several changes in order to reserve some players for Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Apoel Nicosia. Hence, Kiko Casilla replaced Keylor Navas in goal while Luka Modric and Casemiro sat out.
The back-line, however, looked extremely shoddy despite the presence of Sergio Ramos. Ivan Lopez’s long throw-in evaded them all to find Ivi, who just needed to stick out a leg and poke the ball home within the first 12 minutes. Real did fight back but it was just not their game. The tone surrounding most tweets seemed to be rather sombre. Take a look:

3 – Real Madrid have received three red cards this season, one more than they had last campaign (2 – all competitions). Strange. pic.twitter.com/hseM9s3lPc

Real Madrid missed the leadership of Cristiano Ronaldo the most in attack, to say the least.

Most of the fans were also clearly missing their Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Madrid in shambles after just three games. Cristiano Ronaldo's push cost the team four points already.

Zizu's inexperience as a manager has been on display!
He desperately needs @Cristiano
bale needs to step-up
seniors need to stop seeing red— RITURAJ SINGH (@7293Rraj) September 9, 2017
A lot was also spoken about Zinedine Zidane’s luck possibly running out and Marcelo’s unnecessary red card in the end.
Trusting @Benzema and @GarethBale11 at a no.9 and not buying a striker as a backup the biggest mistake ever @ZidaneOfficial_ has done

Morata putting Chelsea up while Benzema faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines shows that Zidane may have made a mistake selling the former.
— Mujtaba (@MujtaBATMAN) September 9, 2017
Zidane has to take responsibility. Questionable team selection & tactics. Doesn't help that both Benzema & Bale are betond hopeless…
— ZIZOU (@RMadridCastilla) September 9, 2017
No Morata no last minutes goals , thank you Zidane
— OMAR ? (@Omar__cr7_) September 9, 2017
Zidane has gone too far, believing his own hype. You don't start a La Liga match with Theo Hernandez and Lucas as your wingers.

One of the many reasons i hate REAL MADRID ??? #RedCard #Marcelo #Levante pic.twitter.com/dmaGzJ6J9r

The Marcelo-Theo experiment isn't working and Madrid need a midfielder there. It's time for Ceballos or Isco.
— Lucas Navarrete (@LucasNavarreteM) September 9, 2017
How many matches should Marcelo be banned for this? pic.twitter.com/BnT2o8NcCp
— Gerard Biqué (@Piquedente) September 9, 2017
Marcelo sent off, Benzema injured, Bale missing sitters, dropped points at home against Levante. Not exactly Real Madrid's day.
— Andy West (@andywest01) September 9, 2017
Oh fuck man. Marcelo deserves it. Kick out after he was tackled. Unusual loss of cool from him. Really really horrible. Let his team down.
— Managing Madrid (@managingmadrid) September 9, 2017
Marcelo will likely be suspended for three la liga games for the red card, missing Real sociedad away, Betis at home and Alavés away.
