Norwich City have snapped up a permanent deal for Arsenal’s young Greek midfielder Savvas Mourgous for an undisclosed fee
According to a report by The Sun, Norwich City have completed a move to sign Grecian midfielder Savvas Mourgous from Arsenal. Mourgous was faced with lack of game time at Arsenal, and will move to the Canaries hoping to receive better opportunities and regular minutes on the field.
The Greek youngster joined the Gunners in back 2014 but failed to make the cut for a single first-team appearance under Arsene Wenger. He arrived at the Emirates stadium fresh after impressing in the Ferroli Cup with his boyhood club Panionios.
The youngster previously represented Greece at the U16, U17 and U19 levels. He also spent time on a trial at Reading, following which he became a known face among the Gunners’ ranks.
Mourgous went on to make five appearances for Arsenal’s under-23s last season, while successfully managing to establish himself as a regular for Kwame Ampadu’s under-18s during his time with the club. He will, however, have to drop down a tier to the Championship to quench his thirst of regular game time.

Although he made sporadic appearances for the u23s under Steve Gatting last season, his most notable performance came against Derby County in January. In fact, he also featured against Manchester United in the Under-23’s final fixture in May, wherein he went on to impress with his skills on field.
He will definitely receive a lot more opportunities to clock regular minutes at Norwich. Matt Gill’s squad have started their PL2 Division Two campaign with a 2-1 home loss to Brighton at Colney and a 4-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. The situation is all the more dire since they have been missing several of their key players who are out on loans.
Their U23 squad is having to do without striker Carlton Morris and midfielder Ebou Adams – who are currently at Shrewsbury – attacker Diallang Jaiyesimi, since he is at Grimsby, while right-back Louis Ramsay is away at Woking and defender Joe Crowe is serving a loan spell with Limerick.
Mourgous is a technically sound, attack-oriented player with a niche for creating chances even in the most stale situations. Considering the lack of talent up front for Norwich City at this moment, the Greek youngster will get a golden opportunity to make a name for himself.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are close to sign AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. Arguably, Mourgous could have continued with a club and perhaps even broken into the senior side if Wenger had the time or luxury to nurture and develop a player. However, with the current condition, a move for an experienced midfield addition seems to be the need of the hour.
