Transfer Rumour: Arsenal outcast Lucas Perez closes in on Deportivo La Coruna return

Arsenal outcast Lucas Perez is reportedly set to exit the club this summer after closing in on a move to his former club Deportivo

According to a report by Daily Mail, Lucas Perez is getting close to an Arsenal exit this summer after a bid was tabled by his former club Deportivo La Coruna.

The 28-year-old forward moved to the Emirates stadium from Spain last August for about £17 million. He was brought in as an alternative for Jamie Vardy after Arsenal’s attempt to sign the Leicester City forward proved to be futile.

Ever since Perez arrived at Arsenal, he has found limited playing time with the Gunners. He started just twice in the Premier League and made only nine starts in total.

To be fair, Perez did have to deal with a thigh injury he suffered in March. However, he failed to make a single match-day squad even when he was in form and was also named as an unused substitute in the FA Cup triumph over Premier League winners Chelsea.

The presence of players like Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud made it unlikely for Perez to get a significant amount of playing time as he did with Deportivo. He endured a disappointing season but with a move back to Deportivo on the horizon, Perez will be keen to get his career back on track.

He did have a few shining moments though. Perez played a brilliant game of football against non-league side Sutton United, finding the back of the net in their comfortable 2-0 win at the Gander Green Lane. However, regular starts are what he has been looking for and that is something he did not receive at the Emirates stadium.

A future with Arsenal definitely will not prove to be a good option for Perez. There have been opportunities for him to prove his worth to Arsene Wenger to convince the Frenchman to hand him more regular starts but unfortunately for the Spaniard, things did not exactly work out.

However, he will have better chances at Deportivo once the deal goes through. He has an eye for goal and is a quick runner with the ball. His passing ability is quite exquisite as he can create chances for the team by dropping deep. He is also decent holding on to the ball, and is known for his sharp movement with and without the ball at his feet.
