Transfer Rumour: Real Madrid target AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma after failure to sign David de Gea

Real Madrid have reportedly turned their attention to Gianluigi Donnarumma after failing to land David de Gea.

According to Simon Mullock of the Daily Mirror, Real Madrid have shortlisted Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as the man to address their woes between the sticks for next season.

Los Blancos have been linked with Manchester United stopper David de Gea for a couple of years, and still do seem to be interested in signing the Spanish number one, but have been put off by the club’s valuation of the player.

It seemed at one point that the Red Devils will be willing to let go of the Spaniard, as it would help sweeten the deal for striker Alvaro Morata to move the other way, with Real then only having to pay £22 million to sign de Gea and offload his compatriot.

However, the attacker has reportedly agreed to making a move to United, and the Manchester club are confident of keeping hold of their number one, leaving Madrid to look elsewhere for options.

They have turned their attention to AC Milan’s teenage sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma, who already has the world at his feet, despite being only 18-years-old. He is already a full Italian international, and is regarded as one of the finest keepers of the next generation.

He will come considerably cheaper than de Gea, and will also be a younger option as compared to the Spaniard. While it may be too soon for Donnarumma to step into Real’s first team, he could play this coming season as a backup to Keylor Navas.

Despite his sub par performances, manager Zinedine Zidane has shown promise in the Costa Rican goalkeeper, and he could play another full season for Los Blancos as they look to defend their Champions League and La Liga crowns.

But he may not be the first choice for too long as Donnarumma could consider moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in the foreseeable future. Currently earning under £2,700 a week, his wages could reach astronomical heights should he join Real.

Milan are understood to be offering him £80,000 per week to get him to commit his future to the San Siro outfit, but the Italian has rejected three contract offers, and could move away from the club if his demands aren’t met.

Thus, the next few weeks would be give a better understanding whether or not Donnarumma will be an AC Milan player for any longer. The Italian club wants to hold on to him, but an interest from Madrid could tempt him to consider his options.
