Transfer News: Liverpool set to launch £10 million summer bid to land Ben Brereton

Liverpool are reportedly set to launch a £10 million summer bid to land Nottingham Forest prodigy Ben Brereton, who has also been linked to Manchester United.

The Sun have reported that Liverpool are finally preparing to go on the offensive to beat Manchester United in the pursuit of highly-rated Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton. The Reds are planning to launch a £10 million bid to land the prodigy in the summer, with Jurgen Klopp looking to add to the talent to his attacking ranks.

At 17, Ben Brereton is already showing signs of the prodigious talent and outrageous potential he possesses as a striker. He has managed to break into the first-team setup at Nottingham Forest, with a return of 3 goals and 2 assists in 9 appearances, including an injury-time winner as his first senior goal for the club.

The player came on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United in February, with the duo sending scouts on a regular basis to monitor the player. And, as per the report, Liverpool’s scouts have sent back glittering reports and rave reviews of the player’s talent and potential.

Liverpool do not have a prodigious forward in their squad and as per the report, Jurgen Klopp, being convinced of Brereton’s talent by the feedback, is ready to sign the player and take him under his wings to nurture the talent, with the German of the belief that he can turn the 17-year-old into a world-beater.

The report states that, although an offer to buy the player outright with the prospect of sending the player back on loan could help Liverpool trump United in the race to sign Brereton, Klopp wants the player to be a part of the set-up at Anfield and not be sent back or out on loan anywhere.

Nottingham Forest are likely to ask for a fee around £10 million, despite claims from their owner of the player being an unsaleable asset, an amount Liverpool are more than ready to splash in order to land the prodigious talent. Manchester United, though, could have some say in the matter.

The Red Devils have been taking interest in Brereton for a while now and were the first club to come into the picture before Liverpool, with reports of the club readying a seven-figure bid for Brereton.

And, even though the player will cost astronomically more now, touted to be around the £10 million mark, they could rival, and possibly trump Liverpool, in the pursuit of the 17-year-old prodigy, who is set to turn 18 soon.
