Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention to Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe as signing Antoine Griezmann appears to be an improbability
According to Miguel Delaney of the Independent, Manchester United have already begun to plot alternatives for Antoine Griezmann and have turned their attention to Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe.
The Atletico Madrid forward has been linked with the Manchester outfit for a long time, and it appeared that the English club would sign him in the summer. They were looking for a player to replace the prolific Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Griezmann perfectly fit the bill for them.
With Atletico boss Diego Simeone commenting that he is unsure about the player’s future, and that he will not stand in his way should he decide to leave, United were handed a huge boost in their pursuit for the Frenchman.
However, if reports in Spain are to be believed, Atletico have convinced their star talisman to stay on at the club and he is likely to sign an extension within the next few weeks. The 25-year-old is understood to be content with life at Vincente Calderon, and is unlikely to move to Old Trafford come the end of the season.
The English side’s pursuit of the striker now appears to have hit a dead end, but they have taken little to no time in lining up suitable alternatives for the Frenchman. Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski, along with Monaco prodigy Kylian Mbappe are understood to be at the top of Jose Mourinho’s priority list for the next transfer window.
Lewandowski has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since his Borussia Dortmund days, and after having tasted success with the German side, it may be the right time for him to step up into a more competitive and fast-paced league.
Also, the presence of Mourinho at the helm is enough to attract stars from even the top European sides as he successfully managed to lure Paul Pogba and Ibrahimovic, despite the fact that they were not in the Champions League.
As for Mbappe, the young French striker has the world at his feet and is being looked at by most, if not all, the elite European clubs. North London duo of Spurs and Arsenal are both in the hunt for the striker that has drawn comparisons to Thierry Henry, where Real Madrid have also shown a keen interest in snapping up the player.
Thus, if Manchester United are to sign him the youngster, they would have to act fast and offer the club a transfer fee that they cannot reject.
