Zinedine Zidane praises Benzema and Modric as Real Madrid rout Eibar 4-1

Zinedine Zidane praised Karim Benzema, who was the hero on the evening, as the Frenchman scored two and set up one in a 4-1 Real Madrid win.

A draw against Las Palmas during the midweek saw them lose their top spot on the La Liga Santander table to Barcelona. But, Real Madrid responded in great fashion as they ran an Eibar side amuck, with a 4-1 away win on Saturday.

Karim Benzema was the cream of the crop on Saturday as he ended the game with two goals and an assist. Zinedine Zidane did not hold back in appreciation of his compatriot in the post-match conference as he highlighted the importance of the striker within the Los Blancos setup.

“ I’m happy with his performance, his two goals and more importantly his involvement in all four goals. I’m happy for him.”

Luka Modric was greeted with a resounding applause and a standing ovation as he was substituted, a great gesture from both section of fans and one that highlights just how important Modric is.

“ It’s not normal to receive an ovation away from home. We’re happy, he’s a fundamental player for us. He manages the game really well. Off the field, he’s an example, he’s very professional and his teammates really appreciate him.”

But, the aforementioned stars were not the only ones on Zidane’s mind. The manager was asked to comment on Asensio’s performance on the night and the former playmaker had a very positive response.

“ I’m happy with his performance. It’s not easy when you’re not playing often. He played as if he’s been involved every three days. I’m happy with his goal and his performance. He’s happy, too.”

The fixture was not an easy one by any means, with Eibar finding themselves in the top half of the table at seventh so far and had recorded just 3 losses at home this season. But, Real Madrid managed to prevail; in resounding fashion.

The win means Real Madrid went to the top of the La Liga table but were soon dragged back down to second, after Barcelona won their respective match against Celta Vigo by 5-0 later in the night to topple Zidane’s men once again.
