Arsenal target Massimiliano Allegri says he would like to stay at Juventus for several more years.
According to the Telegraph, Allegri is happy at Juventus and does not envision leaving the club soon. The Italian also said that the links to Arsenal were non-existent, although he did admit that he would sit down with the Bianconeri to discuss their plans at the end of the season.
“I hope there are another 300 or 400 games as I am happy at Juventus,” Allegri told reporters, according to the Telegraph. “Italian football remains one of the best in the world and recently many young talents have emerged too. As for my future, how can I confirm something that doesn’t exist or deny something I never said?”
“I have a contract with Juventus, I am happy, as I’ve always said we have a season to complete and at the right time we’ll sit down with the club to discuss our plans. I always said that if I were to leave, Juve would be the first to know.”
Allegri, who has already guided Juventus to back-to-back Serie A titles and one Champions League final since taking over in 2014, has been enjoying another fine season with the Bianconeri. Juventus are currently leading the Serie A table by 6 points and are favourites to win another Scudetto.
They also finished first in their Champions League group and have been handed a relatively easy tie against Porto in the Round of 16. His reputation has only grown since his time at Milan and reports emerged in December that he was setting his sights on the Arsenal job.
The uncertainty over Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal is only growing especially considering Arsenal have seen yet another title challenge fizzle out under the Frenchman. There has been some hostility towards the legendary Frenchman and there have even been banners calling for him to leave the club.
Wenger himself has refused to be drawn on his future and, despite reports earlier in the season that he would be offered a new two-year contract, there has been no word on whether or not the Frenchman intends to stay on.
A number of candidates have been touted as potential replacements, including Diego Simeone, Eddie Howe and Thomas Tuchel. Allegri was said to be top on the list of potential replacements but if his latest comments are anything to go by, Arsenal may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
