Chelsea have been on the hunt for a striker to replace wantaway Diego Costa, but the Real Madrid forward they wanted has pledged his allegiance to the Bernabeu
Alvaro Morata returned to Real Madrid this past summer after a successful two year stint at Serie A Champions Juventus. Los Blancos paid €30 million to buy back their academy product, after selling him to the old lady for €20 million in 2014.
However, the homecoming hasn’t turned out to be quite as sweet as Morata would have wanted. The Spaniard has started just six games in La Liga and one match in the Champions League, scoring seven goals and making three assists in the two competitions.
Morata’s quality is on display for all to see, but the much coveted striker hasn’t been given as many chances as he’d like at Real Madrid. This has led to speculation that the 24-year-old is looking for a way out, with reports recently surfacing that claim he feels ‘cheated’, amid some keen interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Blues in particular have been interested in Morata for a while now. They reportedly had a bid rejected for him in the summer, and were linked with the Spaniard once again recently, with his compatriot Diego Costa looking to jump ship.
The Real Madrid forward has now put up a message on his Instagram feed, apparently in response to the rumours, pledging his allegiance to his boyhood club.
The post made in Spanish translates to “No matter what they say #halamadrid forever! This is Madrid and we ALL keep going to the death! With my brother @iscoalarcon in today’s training!”
The response from Morata seems to point at the fact that he is happy and content at Real Madrid. However, it remains to be seen how long he remains satisfied if he continues to be kept out of the first team picture.
Zinedine Zidane has preferred Karim Benzema up front. Other academy products like Marco Asensio and Lucas Vasquez are also competing for positions on the wing, which has made it difficult for Morata to slot right into the starting XI.
However, the Frenchman is proving to be a very clever manager, and it could just be that this period only helps propel the Spaniard to glory with Los Blancos.
