Paulo Dybala will sign a new contract with Juventus, ending any chance of Real Madrid and Barcelona signing him according to reports
According to AS, Juventus have recognised that there is a real danger of losing Paulo Dybala to the Spanish giants, and have moved to tie down the striker to a new contract with no minimum release clause and which runs until 2021.
They also state that with no minimum release clause in place, Juventus will slap a price tag of €200m on Dybala. This is no doubt in order to both protect their own interests in the event of a sale, and to make sure that any club that makes an offer will have to be serious about the purchase.
They are also willing to make Dybala the joint-highest paid player at Juventus alongside Gonzalo Higuain who is on €7m a year before bonuses, in a bid to convince the Argentinian international to commit to the Turin side.
Dybala signed for Juventus in 2015 from Palermo, for a fee of €32 million with €8m in add-ons, and has since gone on to become one of their most important players. A quick, creative player with excellent technical ability, Dybala has drawn comparisons to his compatriot Lionel Messi.
This season, the 23-year old Dybala has been instrumental in Juventus’ successes and has scored 6 goals and picked up 2 assists across all competitions in 16 appearances – 3 of which have come as a substitute. He is also registering an average of 1.7 key passes and 2.2 successful dribbles per game.
It is no surprise, then, that all the top clubs in Europe have been tracking the Argentinian wizard. Real Madrid were reportedly planning a stunning €88m + Alvaro Morata bid for the Juventus forward, in a bid to steal a march on their rivals Barcelona.
Rumours even stated that Dybala preferred a move to Real Madrid over Barcelona, but that Juventus had asked Los Blancos for one of either Toni Kroos or Luka Modric, which Madrid were clearly not interested in.
Barcelona are said to be eyeing up Dybala as a long-term replacement for Lionel Messi, and Dybala even revealed that the Catalans made a large bid for him in the summer, but Juventus immediately rejected it as he was considered too important to be sold.
The news of a contract renewal will come as music to the ears of Juventus fans, as Dybala is a popular figure in Turin. The striker himself stated that he was happy to stay at Juventus and that he would more than pleased to sign a new contract, and it appears that both the player and Juventus have now got what they wanted.
