Liverpool are set to face competition from another Bundesliga giant in the form of Bayern Munich for long time target Mahmoud Dahoud
Liverpool have reportedly been interested in Mahmoud Dahoud for quite some time now and Jurgen Klopp is reported to be a keen admirer of the young central midfielder. So much so, that the Reds were rumoured to be preparing a massive £26 million bid for the him in January.
Dahoud, the first Syrian-born player to ply his trade in the Bundesliga, enjoyed a stunning debut campaign last term where he made 41 appearances, scoring 5 goals and registering 9 assists across all competitions and he has since courted interest from a number of top European clubs.
According to TalkSport, the Reds are set to be joined by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the race for the young midfielder.
The report states that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are considering making a move of their own for the 20-year-old, which doesn’t seem far-fetched, given that the Bavarian giants have made a habit of buying the very best players from other teams in the German top flight in recent seasons.
It may serve the dual purpose of weakening their rivals whilst significantly strengthening the squad at the Allianz arena by adding the best young talent available. Joshua Kimmich, Sven Ulreich, Mat Hummels, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze are just some of the players that have been poached by Bayern in recent seasons from other Bundesliga teams.
It is no surprise that the likes Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and even Juventus are interested in signing the young attacker. Dahoud has established himself as one of the top young attackers in the world and shows a lot of promise for the future.
But it is his release clause, reported to be around a mere £8 million, that catches the eye. His contract is said to have a clause which would allow for him to sign for any club that meets that fee in the summer of 2017.
Dahoud has a contract with Gladbach until the summer of 2018 and he rejected an offer to extend his contract at the start of the current campaign, fuelling speculation that he might he leave in the near future.
Gladbach will be desperate to make a big profit on the player and it is likely that they will consider letting him go to the highest bidder in the January transfer window.
