Transfer Rumour: FC Barcelona monitoring Isco’s situation at Real Madrid

Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Real Madrid playmaker Isco’s contract situation

After arriving at the Bernabeu in 2013 from Malaga, Isco has gone on to make over a 160 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. After making over a 100 appearances in his first two seasons, he has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

It was a summer filled with speculation regarding his future and it was unknown whether he would still be donning the white of Real Madrid at the end of the summer transfer window. It was rumoured that the Champions of Europe had put him up for sale and he was linked with moves to Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are monitoring Isco’s situation and consider him as a possible transfer target. The report states that Barcelona were one of the clubs vying for his signature in 2013, before they ultimately lost to Real Madrid who shelled out €30 million to bring him to the Bernabeu.

Some notable players who have switched the blue and red of Barcelona for the white of Real Madrid include legends such as Ronaldo and Luis Figo. The Portuguese was the last player to cross the divide and the Blaugrana fans still haven’t forgiven him for what is considered treachery.

If this move were to happen, Barcelona would be able to get back at their rivals in a way, and if they were to get him on a free in 2018, it would simply add insult to injury.

Should he make the switch, he could serve as the heir to Iniesta in Barcelona’s midfield. This move would be nothing short of sensational, but it is highly unlikely that Los Blancos would even let him make the switch.

This season, he has made 12 appearances in all competitions, starting 8 matches for Zidane’s men, mainly due to injuries to Casemiro, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez.

At only 24, the Spaniard has the best years of his career ahead of him and it is extremely unlikely that the Real Madrid hierarchy will be willing to let go of such a big talent for free or cheap, and any transfer involving Isco is almost sure to involve a large sum.
