Angel Di Maria hails ‘world class’ Mesut Ozil, insists PSG will be wary of Arsenal’s counter-attack

Ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s trip to the Emirates in the UEFA Champions League, winger Angel Di Maria was full of praise for Arsenal talisman Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal face Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates on Wednesday in a crunch tie that could potentially decide which of the two teams tops the group. The Gunners are currently tied on 10 points with the Ligue 1 giants, but are ahead on goal difference with two more games left to play. The first group stage game between the two teams in September ended in a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been in brilliant form this season, registering 7 goals and 3 assists in 14 games. His form has led many to compare him to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, with Arsene Wenger hoping the midfielder will commit to Arsenal and cement his legacy like the Dutchman did.

Angel Di Maria is clearly a huge admirer of the German World Cup winner as well, and feels he is Arsenal’s most dangerous player. With Ozil’s vision and the fast players around him, the Argentine feels PSG will be have to be particularly wary of the Gunners on the counter-attack.

“They [Arsenal] are excellent on the counter-attack,” Di Maria said, according to UEFA.com. “[Mesut] Ozil is a world-class player, his passing is excellent and he is surrounded by some very fast players.

“However, we have played well in the Champions League this season and we still have two matches left, so we must continue to work hard. Our objective is to top the group.”

Di Maria will know Ozil well from his time at Real Madrid, as the two spent 3 years together playing for the European giants.

Both have moved on, with Ozil joining Arsenal in 2013, and Di Maria leaving Real Madrid for an ill-fated spell at Manchester United and subsequently moving to PSG just one season later.

The former Real Madrid attackers will both be hoping for a positive result on Wednesday, as the winners of the group are likely to get the easier draw for the next round of the UEFA Champions League.
