One of Liverpool’s greatest ever players could return to Anfield just in time to help Jurgen Klopp and his Reds in their fight for the club’s first ever Premier League title.
Steven Gerrard spent seventeen years at Anfield and left behind a legacy matched by few in the history of Liverpool Football Club. The English midfielder bid adieu in 2015 as age began catching up with him, and his stint with LA Galaxy in the United States’ Major League Soccer is also now at an end.
The 36-year-old recently revealed that he was leaving the MLS after his LA Galaxy team were knocked out in the play-offs, bringing his unsuccessful time in America to a close. One of the clubs to take an interest in him immediately was League One side MK Dons, who reportedly offered Gerrard a coaching role.
The Reds legend has now rejected the MK Dons offer and could be seriously considering a return to Anfield, according to the Guardian. The report states that Gerrard wants to gain more experience before taking up a managerial role as he continues to work on his UEFA A coaching license.
Gerrard has been an icon for Liverpool over the years, helping them to two FA Cups and a Champions League triumph. However, the Premier League has managed to elude the veteran midfielder and the Reds.
Liverpool are one of the traditional giants of English football, but have failed to lay claim to the Premier League title since the first division was revamped back in 1992. The Reds came very close in 2013-14, only to fall at the final hurdle.
However, this season is looking like a different story for Liverpool. German manager Jurgen Klopp has revitalised the Reds, turning them into a potent attacking force and one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League.
They are now second in the Premier League table, behind leaders Chelsea by just a point. Liverpool stand a very realistic chance of winning the league, and Gerrard could return just in time to fulfil his dream of Premier League triumph with his boyhood club.
