Atletico Madrid’s final La Liga derby at the Vicente Calderon proved to be a complete disaster as Real Madrid gave their local rivals a footballing lesson. They dominated the game from the opening whistle and were deserving 3-0 winners.
As expected, Real attacker Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show, scoring a memorable hat-trick for his side. It was a momentous feat for him as he surpassed Alfredo Di Stefano’s tally of most goals in Madrid derbies.
Ronaldo also bagged his 39th career hat-trick and his 375th goal for Los Blancos. However, the Portuguese sensation had a slight touch of misfortune as he was denied a goal despite the ball crossing the line in the first half.
In the 12th minute of the game, Ronaldo headed the ball from a perfectly timed Marcelo cross, but Atletico keeper Jan Oblak appeared to have made a save off the line. However, video footage later revealed that the ball had clearly crossed the line.
