French giants Paris Saint-Germain have long been interested in Philippe Coutinho, who is currently one of Liverpool’s top players. The Reds have now set a whopping €75 million price tag on the midfielder.
PSG still seem to be reeling from the loss of some of their best players this summer, with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and centre-back David Luiz heading to the Premier League for Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
However, the French giants are now looking to raid the Premier League for one of their best players in Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian is an integral member of the Liverpool team, and the Reds are trying to sign him to a new contract to ward off interest from Paris.
PSG reportedly made an offer of €25 million this past summer, but the Reds refused to do business. However, the Parisians have made Coutinho their top transfer target of 2017, and in the face of such intense interest, Liverpool have set a €75 million price on the Brazilian midfielder, according to French publication le10sport.
Coutinho was voted Liverpool Player of the Year last season, and the 24-year-old only seems to be improving under Jurgen Klopp. He has already notched up four goals and four assists this season, and is a crucial first team player.
Coutinho would be hard to replace for Liverpool. But the same could have been said for Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, but the 29-year-old was still sold to La Liga giants Barcelona in 2014 for a reported €80 million.
The Reds boast of a power-packed midfield these days, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum all looking impressive. However, Coutinho is the heart and soul of the Reds midfield, and his long range goals have swung many games in their favour over the past few seasons.
PSG wouldn’t have a problem meeting the €75 million asking price for the Brazilian. The likes of Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva may also influence their compatriot to make the move to Paris.
But manager Jurgen Klopp may have the final say in the matter, as the German will not want to lose one of his key players. The Reds are also looking likely to qualify for Champions League football next season, which may also be a factor in Coutinho’s decision.
