One of Italy’s greatest ever wing-backs is now coaching in India and he wants to bring his former AC Milan teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Indian Super League as well.
South Asia is steadily emerging as a viable destination for many of the top players in Europe who are nearing the end of their careeers. China has already roped in the likes of Graziano Pelle and Ramires, while their neighbours India have snapped up the likes of Nicolas Anelka and Robert Pires for the Indian Super League.
However, India could be set for the biggest signing of them all, as Delhi Dynamos manager Gianluca Zambrotta has stated that he will try to bring Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to India.
“Given his fan following in India, I think Zlatan would want to come and end his career here. On my end, I will definitely try and convince him to play for Delhi Dynamos,” Zambrotta said, according to The Indian Express.
Zambrotta is one of the most accomplished Italian players in history. The 39-year-old played for the likes of Juventus, Barcelona and AC Milan, and won the FIFA World Cup as well as three Serie A titles. The Delhi Dynamos manager spent the final two seasons of his career with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan.
Age doesn’t seem to be a factor for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as the 35-year-old is still the focal point of the attack at Manchester United. Coming off a season where he scored more than 50 goals for PSG, Zlatan has notched up four goals in seven games for the Red Devils.
The Swede is currently tied to the club on a one-year deal, which means that he is free to leave next summer. However, there could be a mentor role waiting for him at Old Trafford if he decides to hang up his boots.
Ibrahimovic to India would be a huge boost for the ambitious Indian Super League, but they will be hoping that Man United don’t have future plans for the Swiss superstar. The Delhi Dynamos would also have to cough up huge money to compete with China; an unnamed Chinese club are reportedly willing to pay Zlatan €100 million to play for them.
