In one of the only highlights of an otherwise dull game, Jesse Lingard quickly jumped into the fray as a late altercation erupted between his Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford and several Slovenian players.
The 23-year-old winger started the game, while his teenage clubmate came on in the second half. The two were involved in an ugly confrontation, which included a Slovenian player grabbing Rashford by the neck.

Lingard getting a yellow card and taking on three Slovenian players after one of their players started on Rashford. That’s a bromance.

Not the first time Lingard stuck up for Rashford. pic.twitter.com/p2vQWp2H6h

Meanwhile, England fans would have hoped that the players had reserved some of that aggression for their football. The Three Lions were unable to beat Slovenia in interim manager Gareth Southgate’s second game in charge.
The only player for England who had a good outing was Joe Hart, who pulled off some magnificent saves. One particular save by Hart, early in the second half, perhaps saved the game for the Three Lions.
The outfield players were poor to varying degrees, and the fans were left to lament yet another insipid performance.

3 – England mustered just 3 shots on target v Slovenia; their lowest in a competitive game since v Costa Rica at World Cup 2014 (1). Timid.

Watching England play could cure insomnia ?? #SLOENG

Maybe a reckless suggestion, but I feel #England would have more success if they changed their tactics and passed the ball forward. #SloEng

11 men earning millions between them showed no passion tonight. A side of 11 Non-League players would have at least battled! #SLOENG

#SLOENG could someone tell me why #England players get paid so much because it’s nothing to do with football judging by last nights game!!

So fed up with England beating teams like Malta then failing as soon as they face a big footballing nation like Slovenia or Iceland #SLOENG

#SLOENG This is embarrassing. We should easily beat a Mickey Mouse team like this. I’m ashamed to be Slovenian…
— Mark Summers (@markysumm) October 11, 2016
It’s a disgrace!
We can’t even beat a 2nd rate team with about as much talent as a cabbage.
I’m ashamed to call myself Slovenian.#SLOENG

Can’t wait to tell the grandkids the glory days when #England had Walcott and Lingard on the wing. #SLOENG pic.twitter.com/MTwX73wl3a
