English winger Theo Walcott has been the subject of much criticism over the past couple of seasons, but Arsenal fans were forced to eat their words as the 27-year-old continued his excellent form this season by scoring a brace against FC Basel.
Walcott led the Gunners to their first Champions League victory this season, scoring the only two goals of the game. This has now taken his tally to five goals and an assist in seven games for Arsenal this season.
The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, and few Gooners were opposed to a transfer. Many of them felt that Walcott was past it and had no potential to improve.
However, Walcott’s current purple patch has impressed Gooners, and many of them have been forced to eat humble pie.
Walcott definitely read everyone’s tweets about him during the summer.

Can’t praise Walcott enough. He knew everyone was criticizing him, he knew he had to reply us in the pitch and that’s exactly what he’s doin

13 – T Walcott has scored his 13th CL goal – only Thierry Henry (35) and Robin van Persie (18) have scored more for Arsenal. Superstition.

Theo Walcott had 42 touches in the first half. 42!
He has averaged 40 per 90 minutes over the last two seasons.

Blimey. That’s the best we’ve played in ages. Should be game over. Also, the best I’ve seen Walcott play in years, superb ?
